Make your home a hard target
Typically, burglars do not want to work very hard for what they are trying to steal. The easiest way into a house is obviously through the front door. So, it is a good idea to make sure that all of your doors have deadbolt locks and that they are properly installed. For additional protection, Vigilante Security can install hardware that will electrify your locks. If you have glass in any of your doors, try to make sure that the deadbolt lock is out of reach of a potential burglar, in case they break the glass to reach in and unlock the door. Vigilante Security can provide and install sensors to monitor any of the glass in your home.
If you have a sliding glass door, we recommend screwing sheet metal screws into the top frame of the door. Put one in each end and one in the middle. Make sure that the screws have a large head on them. Screw them in just enough to let the door slide by. This will keep a potential burglar from lifting the door out of its track.
Make sure there is plenty of outdoor lighting, especially in places that are hidden from the road. It is also a good idea to have interior lighting turn on in different locations while you are away from home to make the house look lived in. Vigilante Security can install a system that will control outdoor and indoor lighting and make interior lights turn on and off at different times to give the impression to potential burglars that the house is occupied.
Keep all shrubs and trees pruned and away from the house. The trees should never give a burglar access to the second floor of the house.
Mount closed circuit TV cameras in vulnerable areas such as main entry doors to verify the identity of people at the doors.
